The couple was on a month-long wandering holiday to celebrate Joann's retirement two weeks earlier.

Memorial contributions be made to Curé of Ars Music Department, Rockhurst High School Music Department; Sisters of St. Francis Retirement Fund of Clinton, Iowa; and the Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Kansas City, Kansas.

Joann earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in 1973. She came to Kansas City and had a very successful career in computer and software sales. Joann and Ed met in Kansas City, but were married at her hometown parish in Storm Lake, Iowa on June 16, 1984. In February of 1986, she gave birth to their son, Brian.
Joann was my dear, dear friend. She was an absolute force of nature. I never knew anyone with so much energy. She began every day attending mass, and then packed more into one day than most people do in a week. Joann loved entertaining. She and Ed hosted countless family and friend gatherings, of which "Game Night!" was a particular favorite. She also loved Bridge and was an excellent player and belonged to several Bridge groups.

Joann retired on September 30, 2010 as a sales executive for Softchoice. She was so excited for she and Ed to travel and enjoy their retirement together.
