Charles Baker, 88

Charles S. Baker, 88, of New Boston, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at the Arlington Court Nursing and Rehab Center in Upper Arlington.

Born April 24, 1922, in Cheshire, he was a son of the late Samuel and Erma Folden Baker and was a retired truck driver for Reinhardt Transfer with 38 years of service. Charles served his country in the Army during World War II, received three bronze stars and participated in the Liberation of the Philippines.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Alice Shuler Baker, and a daughter, Kay Baker of Columbus.

Also preceding him in death were brothers, Allen, Raymond, Theodore and Robert Baker, and sisters, Esther Gordon and Julia Lee.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth, with the Rev. Peter Michael officiating.

A military graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at Gravel Hill Cemetery in Cheshire.

The family will receive friends at Brant's in Portsmouth 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
