Johann Christoph Paulus was born in Mengerschied, Prussia. He married Maria Katharina Hoelz on February 9, 1839 in Dichtelbach. He & his wife, along with several other families,immigrated to America on the Ship Louisa Barque of Baltimore, landing in New York in 1843. Upon reaching Wisconsin he immediately purchased land to begin farming.
He & his wife had ten known children including Eva, Christoph, David, Peter, Katharine, Jacob, Regina, Valentin, & Minnie.
