Janet (Jennet) Ann Martin, a daughter of James and Mary "Polly" Martin, grew up in the bounds of the Chester District near Richburg, South Carolina. Janet's father was a charter member of Union Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church.

She married James Hemphill McDaniel; with whom she had the following known children:
James Martin (1831-1904)
Edward Jackson (1833-1865)
John Hemphill (1835-1918)
William Lawrence (1838-1862)
Joseph P. (1840-1864)
Mary Elizabeth {m. S. M. McDill}(1844-1894)

Janet Ann Martin McDaniel departed this life on the 9th of August 1887 at the home of her daughter, in the 79th year of her age. She was laid to rest near her husband and sons, who preceded her.
