Susanna (went by Susan) Clodfelter was the fifth of twelve known children of Michael Clodfelter (1786-1858) and Sarah Hinkle (1790-1873), who married c1807 in presumably North Carolina, though a marriage record for them can't be located.

Susan married Joel Rothrock (1808-1879) on 25 Mar 1834 in Stokes (now Forsyth) County, North Carolina. They came to New Salem (later called West Salem) Illinois in 1843, along with Joel's parents. Susan and Joel were the parents of nine known children, namely:

1. Samuel Augusta Rothrock (1834-1909)
2. Mary Christina Rothrock Walser (1836-1865)
3. Sarah Louisa Rothrock Hedrick (1837-1926)
4. Martha Celesta Rothrock Hinkle Weyl (1839-1911)
5. Henry Francis Rothrock (1843-1922)
6. Permenio "Permane" E. Rothrock (1846-1930)
7. Susan Rebecca Rothrock Siewers (1849-1922)
8. Edwin Havilah Rothrock (1853-1912)
9. James Franklin Rothrock (1854-1930)

Susan and Joel were the grandparents of 54 known grandchildren. Joel died of a stroke.
