OBIT from The Buffalo Reflex on April 3, 1991, Page A-3

Parthena (Parnie) Genevra Bennett was born to a farmer and wife, William Henry Rose and Eliza Susan Cheek Rose, on June 1, 1901 in Long Lane, on the family homestead.
She died at St. John's Hospital in Springfield on March 26, 1991, at the age of 89 years, nine months and 25 days.

Parnie was united in marriage to George Albert Bennett of Long Lane on June 23, 1921. This union was blessed with two children, Clara Opal of Springield and Vera Lucille of Buffalo.

Heritage, work, love and family would all be deeply centered in the Long Lane community throughout her life. Growing up, dating and later marriage to the local rural mail carrier, raising the children and performing the church work would all be done here, in Long Lane. Most will remember her community service through the "Jolly Workers" and her countless meal preparations for the visiting evangelists and resident ministers. After her husband's retirement in 1966, her efforts were principally directed at "spoiling" the grandchildren and eventually the great-grandchildren. Leaving Long Lane in 1978 was very difficult, however she continued to add to her list of friends and would soon be joined by many of her "old friends" who would make their new retirement homes along and around Spruce Street in Buffalo.

Survivors include her two daughters, Opal Burd of Springield; Lucille Chapman of Buffalo and a son-in-law, Bob Chapman of Buffalo. Grandchildren and realted familes are: Bob Chapman and family of Rolla, wife, Lila and children, Brad, Lucas and Linley; Danny Burd and family of Graff, wife, Sally and children, Sara, Kerry and Ross; Debi Chapman Shafer and family of Linn, husband Mike and children, Tassie and Robert; Beckie Burd Lane and family of Springfield, husband, Phillip and children Cody and Samantha; Bill Chapman of Dallas, Texas; David Burd and family of Lebanon, wife, Renita and child, Darrick.

Parnie was preceded in death by her husband, George Bennett, her sisters, Rena Rose, May Rose, Alphie Marshall, Eunice Montgomery and Ethel Edwards; her brothers, Wenton Rose, Russell Rose and Guy Rose.

Parnie finished life as she had spent most of it, in quiet strength and great dignity. She was poised and always demonstrated an unbelievable level of endurance. The Master Gardener has picked and called home one of the prettiest roses ever planted in his earth garden.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm Friday, March 26, in the Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Credille and the Rev. Monte Gann officiating. Music included recorded songs by Wayne Lemons, the choir of Long Lane friends sang "Precious Memories" and "The Old Rugged Cross," accompanied by Fern Vest, Casketbearers were Danny Burd, David Burd, Phillip Lane, Bob Chapman, Bill Chapman and Mike Shafer. Interment was in Garden of Memory Cemetery under direction of the Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo.
