Second Lieutenant Swaim was the co-pilot
of B-29 Superfortress #44-86276, serving
with the 231st Combat Crew Training Squadron
from Alamogordo Army Air Base.

While on a training flight to Fort Worth,
his bomber collided with another B-29 at
15,000 feet over Weatherford, Texas.

All nine crew members aboard Lt. Swaim's
plane were killed. Seven of the nine crew
aboard the other B-29 perished.

The aircrew members killed were:

1st Lt. Aubrey K. Stinson (pilot)
2nd Lt. Benson W. Cohen
2nd Lt. Gordon E. Myers
2nd Lt. Edward E. Lahniers
Sgt. Clarence A. Jurgens
Sgt. Donald E. LeFebvre
Sgt. Johnny A. Mosely
Sgt. Donald E. Reed
