Lucy Trujillo, Homemaker, 94, passed away on Monday, April 11, 2005, at 2:15 a.m. in Albuquerque with her family by her side. She was born on December 30, 1910 in Springer, NM to Francisquita Guillen Padilla and Tranquelino Arellano. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carlos Trujillo; sons, Carl Francis Trujillo and Stanley James "Jimmy" Trujillo; sisters, Lillie Guillen Valdez (husband Paul Valdez) and Ida Gonzales; brothers, Dan Padilla, Jake Padilla, and Jim Zamora; best friend, Eloina "Elo" Vicharelli. A lifelong resident of Raton and a member of St. Patrick's - St. Joseph's Catholic Church, she was Commissary manager at Camp Cook in California during WWII. She was also involved with the Catholic Daughters of America serving as an officer for a few years and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Lucy became a surrogate mother to several motherless daughters and raised them as if they were her own. An avid fan of horse racing, she enjoyed spending the summers betting on the horse races at La Mesa Park racetrack. She is survived by her daughter, Gloria Sandoval and husband, George; grandson, Dr. Paul C. Sandoval; granddaughters, Lisa Alwin and husband, Troy, Dana Bigbie and husband, Randy; and great-granddaughter, Megan Rose Bigbie, all of Albuquerque. She is also survived by special daughters, Rose Marie Sandoval and husband, Manuel of Santa Fe, Margaret Martinez of Denver, CO; and cousin, Inez Hurtado of Valley Center, CA; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick's-St. Joseph's Catholic Church at a later date. Funeral arrangements for Lucy Trujillo are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
