LANWORTHY - Funeral services for Carl Johnson Gerdes, 71, will be held today (Thursday) at 2 p.m. in Wayne Zion Lutheran church with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Harvey O. Gilbertson will officiate.
Mr. Gerdes a resident to Langworthy, died Monday at John McDonald hospital after a brief illness.
He was born in Cass township May 28, 1899, the son of John and Anna Siebels Gerdes. He received his education in the Jones county schools.
He married Anna Schafer Dec. 7, 1921. The couple farmed in the Langworthy area until moving to their present home in 1944.
Mr. Gerdes was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran church and served many years as a director of the Langworthy Creamery.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Robert J. of Langworthy; a daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Dorothy) Goldsmith of Scotch Grove; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a brother, Alva J. of Amber.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, three brothers, and a great-grandchild.
Casketbearers will be John Gerdes, William Otten, Alfred Gerdes, Lawrence Schafer, Bennie Tobiason and Jack Hoffman.
