~MY ANCESTOR~
The son of WILLIAM & SARAH (BURGESS) MERIAM/MERRIAM, George, his father (WILLIAM), and brother, Joseph were clothiers in Hadlow, co. Kent, England. Acccording to Donald Lines Jacobus, their ancestry can be traced back to William Merriam who died in 1478/9.
Note: The names Merriam and Merriman were often interchanged.

George, his wife (SUSANNAH MERIAM whom he married on Oct. 16, 1627 in Tonbridge, Kent, England:, and at least two children may have come to America on the ship, "CASTLE OF LONDON" arriving in Charlestown in the colony of Mass. in July of 1638. He was declared a freeman of Mass. on June 2, 1641. The family was living in Concord by 1644 where he signed a petition for compassion on behalf of Mr. Ambrose Martin along with Robert Meriam, Thomas Wheeler, George, & Joseph Wheeler.

His will was dated Oct. 8, 1675 and proved April 4, 1675.

According to Savage, the children of George & Susannah Meriam were Elizabeth, SAMUEL (my ancester), Hannah, Abigail, Sarah, and Susanna.
