John Henry Harper was born in Warren County, KY. When he was a small boy, his parents traveled by covered wagon to southwest Polk County, MO, where his father had purchased acreage from the government. His first wife was Elizabeth Catherine Neal. She died in 1877 at the age of 35, and was buried in the Harper family cemetery on land Nelson Harper owned.
John then then married Nancy McDaniel, and later they moved to the Sapulpa, OK area, where he remained for the rest of his life.
