Road, Greenville, died at his home
Thursday. Funeral arrangements
are pending at Hurst Funeral Home, Greenville.

GREENVILLE —William E.
Valance, 70, South Greenville Road,
Greenville, passed away at home
with his loved ones Thursday evening, Oct. 9,1997.
He was born June 8, 1927, in Lakeview, the son of John and Bertha Hall Valance.
H e graduated in 1945 from Lakeview High School. Bill was
employed at federal Mogul for 35
years, retiring in 1983, and was a
school bus driver for Greenville
Public Schools, retiring in 1990. He
served a s a captain with the Montcalm Township Fire
Department for 18 years. Bill was a
veteran of World War II, serving in
the United States Army, a n d wa s a
member of the American Legion
Ray 1 Booth Post 101, Greenville. He
married Maxine Haines in Lakeview o n March 20,1948.
H e w a s preceded in death by his
parents; o n e brother, Russell in 1937;
a n d an infant son in 1954.
H e is survived by his wife,
Maxine; t w o daughters a n d sons-inlaw, Susette and Dennis Smalley of
Grand Rapids, Marsha "Marti" and
Mark Treeian of Lakeview; five
grandchildren , Kathie a n d Sara
Trebian, Elise, Linnae a n d Brett
Smalley; one sister, Bemice Nelson
of Lakeview; o n e brother-in-law,
Ralph Haines of Stanwood, Wash.;
o n e sister-in-law, Ethel a n d Owen
Emerick of Warsaw, Ind.; three nephews and two special nieces.
Funeral services will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Hurst Funeral Home
with the Rev. John F. Ritter, pastor of Turk Lake United Methodist
Church, officiating. Burial will be in
East Montcalm Cemetery with military honors conducted by the
American Legion Post 101.
Visitation will be today from 7 to
8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Bill's
request for memorials w a s to the
Buy a Seat Program at the
Greenville High School for the new
auditorium. Envelopes are available
at the funeral home .
