THE HENRY BULLETIN, Martinsville, Va., Tue., Dec. 2, 1930, p. 3, col. 4:
(edited)
Zachary Taylor Cahill, age 84 and prominent citizen of the Reed Creek section of this county for many years, and one of the few surviving Soldiers who fought for the Cause of the Confederacy, answered the final roll call Friday morning, following a stroke of paralysis, suffered shortly before.
Funeral services were held from the late home at Reed Creek Saturday afternoon, followed by burial in the Cahill family burial ground nearby.
Surviving besides his wife, who was Miss Harriett M. Bousman of this county, before her marriage are the following children: Miss Bessie Cahill, Messrs.. J. T., L. D., G. B. and W. P. Cahill. One sister, Miss Eliza E. Cahill, also remains.
The deceased spent practically his entire life at Reed Creek and for a half century was an influential citizen of that community.
He was an active member of the Stuart Hairston Camp of Confederate Veterans here and always attended the State and Southern reunions annually as a representative from the local camp.
His passing reduces the surviving members of the Veterans' organization to ten. Many members have answered the last roll call within the past two years, rapidly diminishing the ranks of those who fought for the Southern Cause.
Those acting as pall bearers during the final rites of this well known citizen included G. P. King, T. J. King, G. N. King, F. M. Mitchell, J. S. Shumate and Dillard Cahill.
