Betty L. Pfeifer, 60, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at Hays Medical Center. She was born March 13, 1942 in Hays to Walter C. and Philomene (Fisher) Ross.

She graduated from Girls Catholic High School, Hays, and was a cook at Felten Middle School for 28 years.

She married Kenneth W. Pfeifer on May 29, 1961 at Hays. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, of the home; three sons, Roger, Tony, and Loran, all of Hays; a daughter, Lisa Hess, Hays; a brother, Walter C. "Chuck" Ross Jr., Hays; four sisters, Shirley Schartz and Jean Ross, both of Hays, Marilyn Wasinger, Wichita, and Patricia Needy, St. George, Utah; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. A parish vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at Brock's North Hill Chapel, 2509 Vine. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorials are suggested to the church or to Masses.
