Amanda Ernestine Walk was born at Friedberg (then in Stokes County, now in Forsyth County), North Carolina. She was the sixth of seven known children of Charles Christian Walk (1805-1873) and Lydia Rothrock Walk (1806-1877), who married 27 Dec 1827 near Friedberg, Davidson County, North Carolina. Amanda moved with her parents and siblings to the Moravian community of West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois in 1844.
Amanda first married to Charles Immanuel (went by Immanuel) Voigt (1836-1873) on 15 Nov 1860 at Edwards County, Illinois. Amanda and Immanuel were the parents of six known children, namely:
1. Edwin Havilah Voigt (1861-1920)
2. Henry Theodore Voigt (1866-1953)
3. Lucy Albertine Voigt Weaver (1868-1942)
4. William R. Voigt (1870-1938)
5. Ella Cordelia Voigt (1872-1872)
6. Charles Imanuel Voigt (1873-1946)
After Immanuel died, Amanda remarried to John C. Cantwell (???-???) on 04 Nov 1883 at Edwards County, Illinois. Nothing is known of this marriage. The grave marker for Amanda reads Amanda Voigt, so I will use Amanda Voight Cantwell for her name on her Find-A-Grave Memorial.
