Fred Baer, Sr., St. Nazianz, died Saturday afternoon at the County Hospital following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Gregory's Catholic Church. The Rev. Frederick Dorn will officiate. Burial will be in St. Nazianz cemetery.
Fred Baer was born in Germany Nov. 26, 1872. He came to this country at the age of 14 (and lived with his brother Karl in New Jersey). When he was 17 he came to St. Nazianz. On May 19, 1895, he married Miss Mary Niederprum at St. Gregory's Church. He farmed about two miles from the village. His wife died in 1932. He lived in the village for the past 15 years.
He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. William (Theresa) Merkes, Elwood Park, Ill; Mrs. Henry (Elizabeth) Binversie, Kiel, Route 1; Mrs. Clarence (Helen) Escher, New Holstein; Mrs. Arthur (Rose) Stein, Newton, Route 1, Mrs. Linlie (Anne) York, Riverside, Ill.; and Mrs. Emil (Hildegard) Lulloff, Manitowoc Route 3; three sons, Henry and Fred, both of St. Nazianz, and Joseph, of Irvington, N.J.; and 57 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, John, in 1950.
The body will lie in state at the Kellenbenz Funeral home, St. Nazianz, from tonight until the time of service. He was a member of the Holy Name Society.
