RACINE - Robert F. 'Bob' Lawrenz, 94, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2010, at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - All Saints. He was a lifelong resident of Racine, born on August 14, 1916, the son of Robert and Clara (nee: Koehler) Lawrenz. Robert was united in marriage to Eleanor Neidhardt on November 23, 1940, in Dubuque, Iowa. He served in the United States Army Air Force and was stationed in Africa. Bob was a member of Emmaus Lutheran Church and a life member of the VFW. He had been employed with Racine Unified for 34 years, retiring in 1979 as a Custodial Engineer. Bob loved to fish, especially at his cabin up North in Crivitz. He also enjoyed coin and stamp collecting. Bob had a lifelong friend, Robert Marsh, who was also the best man in his wedding; they were known as the best pitcher - catcher team in the Racine softball leagues. Bob is survived by his wife of 69-3/4 years, Eleanor; daughters, Donna Sharp, Bonnie (Ron) Witt, all of Racine, Judy Wilson of Spencer, Iowa, and Sue Justman of Plano, Texas; four grandchildren, Chris (Becca) Witt of Racine, Julie Harmalink of Plattsmouth, Neb., Tammie (Kevin) Sullivan of Wylie, Texas, and Jeff (Heather) Streuli of Spencer, Iowa; nine great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Tyler, Cammi, Cameron, Cain, Trevor, Caleb, Joshua, and Jayme. He is further survived by other relatives and friends, especially Bob (Marcy) Marsh of Osprey, Fla. Bob was preceded in death by one brother, Eddie; and three sisters, Leona, Agnes, and Adelaide. Funeral services will be held at Sturino Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at 11 a.m. Bob will be laid to rest with full Military Honors at Graceland Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. and at the funeral home on Wednesday before services from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Memorials to the family for a memorial brick at Ridgewood Care Center would be appreciated. The Lawrenz family would like to thank the entire staff, nurses, aids, and the entire facility for the fine care Bob 'Papa' received during his time at Ridgewood.
