RICHARD W. BARROWS

Richard W. Barrows, one of the first residents of Gladwin, died Friday, Dec. 4, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mildred Newman. He had lived in Gladwin continuously since the year 1878 and had worked at the mason trade during that period. He had helped to build many of the business buildings of the town and a large portion of the .residences, and had charge of the laying of much of the side walk of the city. When he arrived in the city there were only a half-dozen buildings. He was a hard working and industrious man, trustworthy and reliable, and will be missed by the people of the city. He was born Feb. 24, 1857. In 1882 he was united in marriage to Jessie Irmine Brown and there were born to them six children, Mrs. Nellie V. Cameron, Mrs. Harriet E. Hildebrant, Mrs. Eva V. Croy, Rhue M. Barrows, Francis D. Barrows and Mrs. Mildred Newman. Mrs. Cameron, Mrs. Croy, Rhue and Francis have all preceded their father in death.
He was a kind and devoted father and respected by all for his cheerful disposition. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church Monday, Dec. 7, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Leroy M. Whitney officiating. The burial was in Highland cemetery with graveside services by the Oddfellows, conducted by Wilber Smith, N.G. and Richard J. Smith, chaplain.
