Another aged and highly respected citizen has gone. On Jul. 3, 1904 at her home near Windsor Aunt Emma Harris passed peacefully away. Emma Harris was born near Nashville, TN, Feb. 25, 1829, and departed this life Jul. 3, 1904. She came to Illinois with her parents when she was one year old and they settled in Shelby county, where she has since resided and hence was among the oldest citizens in the community. [appears newspaper left out a line about her marriage] To them were born three children, viz: Hiram Harris of Windsor, James Harris, who always lived with his mother, and Mrs. Eliza Fling of Windsor. She leaves six grandchildren and two great children; also two brothers and four sisters, viz: Mrs. Sallie Rector, Mrs. Miranda Wallace, Mrs. Nancy Putnam, and J. D. Bruce, all of Windsor; Mrs. Hannah Wallace of Lakewood, and Thomas Bruce of Pleasanton, KS. All of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, brothers and sisters were present at her demise except the last named. Mrs. Harris was converted to Christ and united with the Christian church at Sand Creek under the ministry of Elder Tobias Grider when she was about 17 years old and lived a faithful Christian life, full of faith in Christ and hope in God until death. The funeral services were held according to her last request Tuesday at the Sand Creek church in the presence of a large assembly of relatives and friends, who expressed the deepest sympathy at the death of one who so dearly loved her home, her church, and her Saviour. She was honored and respected by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed in the church and in the community, but most of all in the home. The remains were laid to rest in Sand Creek cemetery. Peace be to thy rest and love to thy memory. Windsor Gazette - Thursday - 7 Jul 1904
