John Wesley Curtis, who died Tuesday evening, Dec. 3, 1930, at his home as the result of a critical illness which began Sunday evening, was buried Friday afternoon following funeral services in his home. Burial was in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Mansfield.
Mr. Curtis was born near Erie, Pennsylvania Jan. 6, 1858 the s/o Thompson Sylvester & Amelia Curtis. HE came to Illinois when 18 years old and has since made his home in Blue Ridge township.
He was married to Eva Crosby Sept. 8, 1884; she preceded him in death August 8, 1887. He was married to Mary Elizabeth James on May 1, 1889. To this union were born twelve children. His widow and eleven children survive him, all of whom were with him at the time of death.
The children are: Wilbur, Carl & Richard at home; Will, Clyde, Lewis, Mrs. Ida Bennett, and Mrs. Viola Howe of Farmer City; Mrs. Mabel Kirkpatrick of Oshkosh WI; Roger of Mansfield; and Marshall of Chicago.
There are also fifteen grandchildren. One son, Ray, preceded him in death on Jan. 29, 1908 at sixteen years of age. He is survived by four sisters: Mrs. Elmer Smith of Bellflower; Mrs. Mary Brower and Mrs. Minnie Gray of Erie PA; and Mrs. Anna Lang of Findlay OH.
He devoted his entire life to farming but failing health caused him to give up active work two years ago.
