Prominent Resident Dies at 77

A resident of this area for more than 50 years, William A. Peacock, 77, of 602 Ratcliff, died Wednesday at 4:20 p.m. in Doctors Hospital.

Mr. Peacock came to Shreveport in 1919 as an associate with an oil refinery. In 1931 he organized Peacock Surgical Co., serving as chairman of the board at the time of his death.

Mr. Peacock was born June 14, 1894 in Indianapolis, Ind. He was educated at Butler University and was a member of Phi Delta Theta. He was married to the late Mattie Gray Williams of Morehouse Parish on June 21, 1921. He served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army during World War I.

He was active in civic work and served as chairman of an American Cancer Society fund campaign. He served two years as chairman of the American Surgical Trade Association, a national organization of surgical supply houses.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church, the Rotary Club, American Legion, 40 & 8, and was a Shriner.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Osborn chapel. Dr. Frank Alexander, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Park.

Pallbearers will be William F. Turner, A. N. Barnette, Camile J. Spataro, Kenneth Gardner, Douglas B. Yauger, John F. Luck, Sidney L. Williams and W. Forshey Golibart.

Survivors include one son, J. W. Peacock of Shreveport; one daughter, Mrs. John Dart Jr. of New Orleans; six grandchildren; and one brother, R. H. Peacock of Monroe, N.Y.
