During the Civil War William R. Lindsey served in the Confederate Army as a private in Company H, 22 Reg't, Mississippi Inf. He enlisted at Oxford, Mississippi on August 21, 1861 by Capt. Smith. William was wounded in battle at Corinth, Mississippi and his leg was amputated.
He was listed as a one legged farmer on one census.
