Andrew Jackson Ratcliff b. 7 Sep 1841 to Robert James Ratcliff and Mary Hammond, EBR Parish, LA. 1850 Federal Census EBR Parish, 8 yrs. 1860 Fed Census, Livingston Parish, Bayou Barbary, 18 yrs. Enlisted in Confederacy 13 May 1862 at Camp Moore. 5 Aug 1862, Battle of Baton Rouge noted as missing, Capt. Buffington's Co. where one killed, 8 wounded, and 15 missing. His Co. at Port Hudson doing guard and picket duty and assisted in construction of earthen works. Siege of Port Hudson 23 May - 9 Jul 1863. His Co. occupied the trenches on the Confederate right flank. 3 Jul 1863 on Roll of Prisoners of War, paroled at Port Hudson 12 Jul 1863. Bought from parents 120 ac. at Bayou Barbary for $600 cash on 27 Oct 1863. M. Elizabeth Martin bef 1866. She died aft 8 Jul 1874. 1880 Fed Census, Ascension Parish, LA m. to Blanche, who raised Elizabeth Martin's children. Her d. bef. he m. Martha Jane Fickling on 8 Apr 1882. 1900 Fed Census, Tangipahoa Parish on a farm near Independence btw Natalbany and Tangipahoa Rivers. 1910 Fed Census on a farm at Ward 5. 1911 applied for Confederate pension listing Holton, LA. D. 24 Nov 1914 and buried at Lee Cemetery near his farm abt 2.5 miles from Holton, LA. Lena Ratcliff, daughter, told her great-grandson and confirmed by Pearl Evans, Lena's daughter, "It was a horrible day. It was raining and the roads were muddy. A wheel fell off the wagon dropping Jackson's casket in the mud". His gravesite is now quiet, beautiful and peaceful.
