Joseph "Diamond Joe" Maryland, 74, a native and resident of Terrebonne Parish, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Community Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with burial in Southdown Cemetery.

He is survived by one son, Shoan Lodge of Houston; five daughters, Sherry Stadium and husband, Carlton Sr., Marvel Lynn Nichols and husband, William, of Baton Rouge, Jodi Maryland of Carson, Calif., Tammy Stewart, and Sheena Henry and husband, Poleat Sr.; one sister, Dimple Maryland Commodore; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Dickerson Maryland; his parents, Edward and Harriet Johnson Maryland; two brothers, Richard and Eddie Maryland; three sisters, Verna M. Welch, Helen M. Thompston and Leverdia M. Lewis; and one granddaughter, Marrell Stewart.

He was a U. S. Air Force veteran, a musician and songwriter.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
