ANOTHER PIONEER PASSES AWAY
Jasper Hain, Prominent Citizen of Buck Grove, Died at Home There Last Saturday Evening. Had Resided in This County Almost Forty Years--Funeral Services Held Thursday Morning.
Buck Grove, Feb 16--(Special to the Review)--Mr. Jasper Hain, one of the pioneer residents of this place, died at his home here on Saturday, February 13th, at 12:30 o'clock in the afternoon, following a long illness. A year ago this winter he was very ill with pneumonia, from which he never fully recovered, and a severe winter was too much for his enfeebled constitution to endure. For the past few weeks he suffered considerably, but was unable to rally from the attack and passed peacefully away.
The deceased was born in Cedar county, Iowa, Feb. 6, 1853, and was 62 years of age at the time of his death. On the 6th day of January, 1876, he was united in marriage to Miss Malinda Slater near Tipton, Iowa, in Sugar Creek church. To this union eight children were born four sons and four daughters, all of whom survive him, and all were present at the funeral. In the spring of 1876 Mr. and Mrs. Hain came to Crawford county, settling on a farm and have lived in this county ever since. After retiring from active farm work Mr. Hain followed carpentering for a trade and devoted his entire time to that.
In the death of Mr. Hain our town loses one of its prominent citizens and by his departure a vacant place has been left, never to be filled in the home and hearth of his family. He will be greatly missed in this locality where he had numerous friends.
Besides his bereaved widow he leaves to mourn his death the following children: Herman, living at Whittier, Calif; Mrs B. Iseminger, of Dalton, Neb.; Mrs. Geo. Bonesteel, of Defiance, Iowa; Mrs. Bert Walsworth and Mrs. Louise Arndt, of Buck Grove; Frank, of Manilla, and Foster and Dean, living at home. He leaves also three brothers, R. S. Hain, of Neola, Iowa; Freeman Hain, of Indianola and Anthon (sic)Hain, of Dow City; two sisters, Mrs. Wm. Moffit, of Denison, and Mrs. Wm. McBride, who resides just north of Denison.
The funeral services were held at the family residence this morning at 10 o'clock and were largely attended by a number of old friends whose deepest sympathy goes out to the bereaved ones left to mourn his death.
