Reuben L Alley was born to Alexander A and Tryphena Peabody Alley in Jonesport, Maine. In 1864 Reuben married Louisa J Robinson and together they had seven sons, Ephraim, Edmund N, Jeremiah Beal, Hiram Curtis, Leonard Jerome, Reuben, Jr and Jerome Warren Alley. Per the book, "Early Jonesborough families of Washington County Maine" Reuben & Louisa had five daughters who died in infancy 1869-1869, 1874-1874, 1877-1877, 1881-1881, and 1883-1883. Per the U S Federal Census 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910 and 1920, Reuben was a fisherman.
