The Lord has called for James D. Burton on Monday, September 6, 2010. He was a resident at Golden Living-The Cedars.

James was born on January 3, 1941 to the late Rosa B. Burton. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert "Bobby" Burton and Arthur O. Burton; and his sisters, Helen G. Davenport, Annie B. Burton and Henrietta B. Thompson.

James worked his early years with the City of Charlottesville before moving on to Frank IX silk mill. He enjoyed being a caddy at Farmington Country Club in the past and most recently, World Strides Travel as a chaperone. His passion was fishing and he did so often with his fishing buddies: Mason Allen, Asher Conn, Wilson Dooms, Hugo Morris, Phil Brown, William Hearns and Ray Carey.

He is survived by his children, Irene Herndon, Mary Steppe, Lillian Burton, Orelia Burton, Jamie Poindexter and Wendell Burton, all of Charlottesville; a brother, J. Murphy Burton and his wife, Mary; one sister, Mary Lou Anderson of Jacksonville, FL; twenty-two grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives; and a special friend, Jackie White.

A memorial service was held Saturday September 11, 2010 in Ebenezer Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Lehman D. Bates, II officiating.
