Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient, Wyoming Governor, US Senator. At the start of the Civil War he enlisted as a Private in Company C, 49th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Union Army. In actions at Port Hudson, L on May 27, 1863, Corporal Warren volunteers to take part in movements against Confederate Artillery position. After his entire platoon was destroyed by Confederate bombardment and Corporal Warren was wounded, he still disabled the enemy artillery. For gallantry on the battlefield, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. After the war, moved to Wyoming, where done business in real estate, mercantile and livestock. He became a member of Territorial Senate serving as president (1873-74, 1884-85) and was appointed 1st Governor of the Territory of Wyoming by President Chester Arthur in 1885. He had served as governor for only a short term, when he was elected as a Republican to the US Senate in 1890 and held the position until his death at the age 85 in Washington, D.C. Warren Air Force Base is named in his honor and his daughter was married to Army General John J. Pershing.
