George Guy Davidsaver, 76, of 522 W. 17th St., died at 3:41 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Iowa City.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with the Rev. Donald Bakewell officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa, where military rites will be accorded by the Dubuque Marine Corps. League. Friends may call after noon Friday at the funeral home.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1934, in Dubuque, son of George Roussel and Catherine (Hemenway) Davidsaver. He married Mary O'Donnell on April 30, 1955, in Dubuque.
George was a proud member of the Marine Corps., serving from November 1951 to July 1954 in the Korean War.
He was a cement mason and worked for several Dubuque contractors and was a 40-year member of the Dubuque Operative Plasterers and Cement Mason's Local 561.
In his spare time, he loved to bow hunt and fish and was a lifelong Chicago Bear and Chicago White Sox fan. There was not a football or baseball trivia question that he could not answer.
Surviving are his wife, Mary V. "Ginny" Davidsaver, of Dubuque; two sons, George T. and Theodore Davidsaver, both of Dubuque; two daughters, Mary and Amy (Mike) Rube, of Cedar Falls; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Jean (Nicolas) Davidsaver, of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Nicolas Davidsaver.
