NO BLAME FIXED IN KIRBY'S DEATH
No blame was fixed for the death of Talbert Kirby, an employee of the Empire District Electric Company who was killed by electrocution yesterday morning, by a coroner's jury today.
An investigation was conducted by James Nutman of Granby, Newton county coroner, at the Hurlbut chapel at 10 o'clock this morning.
Kirby who resided at 1824 Sergeant, was assisting with the installation of a power line two miles west of Saginaw yesterday morning when the accident occurred. He had climbed a pole to throw int he power switch and as he grasped a wire leading into the transformer his foot struck a ground wire, completing a circuit which sent a full shock of 6,600 volts through his body.
O. G. Gilbert, a fellow worker, and two employees of a farm near where the accident happened, released Kirby's body.
The body was brought to the Hurlbut Undertaking Company in the Hurlbut ambulance.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Daisy Kirby; a son, Mack Kirby; his father, Talbert Kirby of Joplin; four sisters, Mrs. Ed [Nora] Hansford of Royal Heights, Mrs. Harold [Lucille 'Sis'] Campbell, northeast of Joplin, and Mrs. Burk [Mamie] Ralston, Mrs. A. L. [Osa] Douglas and a brother, Otis Kirby of California.
KIRBY - Funeral services for Talbert Kirby, who was killed by electrocution Monday morning, were conducted at the South Joplin Christian church with the Rev. Powell Smith, pastor, officiating. Empire District employees were pallbearers. Burial was in Forest Park Cemetery.
