Caroline (Davis) Brewen, along with other family members, was on the steamship "City of Chester" when it was struck by another ship in San Francisco Bay in 1888 . She survived; her brother, Solomon Paul Davis survived; her brother, Columbus Turley Davis and her granddaughter, Josie Brewen, were last seen holding hands on the deck of the ship. Columbus Turley Davis' body washed ashore a few days later. There was never any mention of finding Josie's body.
