Birth: unknown, Israel
Death: unknown, Egypt

Joseph or Yosef was the eleventh of Jacob's twelve sons in the Hebrew Bible. Joseph was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, but rose to become the most powerful man in Egypt after Pharaoh. He then brought his entire family down to Egypt, where they were settled in the land of Goshen. The story has been of great importance in later Jewish, Islamic and Western culture.
Tradition has it that Joseph lived to be about 110 years old and before he died he made the children of Isreal swear that when they left the land of Egypt they would take his bones with them, and on his death his body was embalmed and placed in a coffin in Egypt. The children of Israel remembered their oath, and when they left Egypt during the Exodus, Moses took Joseph's bones with him. (Exodus 13:19) The bones were buried at Shechem, in the parcel of ground which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor (Joshua 24:32), which has traditionally been identified with site of Joseph's Tomb, before Jacob and all his family moved to Egypt. Shechem was in the land which was allocated by Joshua to the Tribe of Ephraim, one of the tribes of the House of Joseph, after the conquest of Canaan.
There are some scholars that believe that Joseph, was Yuya. This is based on when Yuya remains were found (1904) a study was made and concluded that his features were Semitic and he had a beard style similar to that of the ancient Hebrews whereas Egyptian officials were known to shave their facial hair. Additionally, Joseph in Genesis 45:9 is called "a father of pharaoh" and Yuya is the only Egyptian official to ever have had this title (with the exception of his son, Ay, who held the similar title Itnetjer, or "father of the god"). He was the father of Queen Tyre. She was the wife of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Mother of Pharaoh Akhenaten IV. Grandmother of Pharaoh Tutankhamun (King Tut) and my ancestor Scota
