From Hollandn St. John "Elizabeth was born in Montgomery County, Kentucky in 1797. There are questions as just who her parents were and very little is known about Elizabeth's family. The Thompsons migrated from Kentucky to Posey County, Indiana in the early 1800s. In 1814 in Posey County, Indiana (the county had just been formed from Knox County that year), Elizabeth married William Duckworth, son of John and Mary (Hill) Duckworth. The Duckworths were one of the first families to established farms in the county. Elizabeth and her husband were early members of the Bethel Baptist Church located near Farmersville, Posey County. William developed a farm in the area and the couple had their first child: Lucinda. By 1820, however, the family moved to Sullivan County and William established a new farm. Elizabeth had eleven additional children while they lived at this location. William died in 1839 and six years later Elizabeth married John Scott. Little is known about John other than the fact he was born in Pennsylvania around 1793. The U S Census of 1850 records that John was farming in Jackson Township, Sullivan County. He and Elizabeth were both listed as being fifty-five years of age. Her daughter Elizabeth Ann was fifteen and living at home. By 1860 they were still on the farm. John was recorded as being sixty-seven and Elizabeth as sixty-four. They had a fifteen year old boy named Frederick Shepan living with them who was a farm laborer. One interesting note: From Sullivan County, Indiana, on December 30, 1852, claim was made by "Elizabeth Scott, formerly Duckworth, aged 55 years, a Resident of Sullivan County...for the purpose of obtaining the Bounty land to which the Minor Children...may be entitled...towit Margaret Reed Duckworth, Robert Marion Duckworth, Elizabeth Ann Duckworth Intermarried with William Stark, and David Jefferson Duckworth...She was married to the said William Duckworth...1814, born Elizabeth Thompson." On December 23 1856 these two waive any claim to bounty. On January 30, 1852 Margaret Jones (my great grandmother), formerly Margaret Duckworth, aged 53, resident of Posey County, Indiana, formerly of Montgomery County, Kentucky, sister of William Duckworth, gave an affidavit on 23 December 1856 that William Duckworth left the following children: Lucinda, John, Mary, Joseph, William, Thomas, Nancy, Sarah, Margaret, Robert M., Elizabeth and David J. The warrant was issued to Abraham Wence, guardian of the minors. Several sources suggest that Elizabeth passed away in 1863 and documentation is sketchy. It is assumed she was buried in the Sugar Grove Cemetery near the town of Hymera where the family farm was located and where her first husband William was interred."
