COOKEVILLE – Funeral services for Daniel C "D.C." Wheeler, 87, will be held today, Sunday, March 9, at 2:30 p.m. at Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ, with burial in Cookeville City Cemetery.
Mr. Wheeler was dead on arrival at Cookeville General Hospital on Friday, March 7, 1997.
Born on Oct. 27, 1909, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late W. R. and Minnie Kirby Wheeler. He was a member of the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ and a farmer and carpenter.
His family includes his wife, Opal Vaughn Wheeler of Cookeville; five daughters, Thelma Clark of Portland and Clella Marie Wright, Vera Maverine Swallows, Mary Goolsby, and Mae Stults, all of Cookeville; seven sons, Willie D. Wheeler, Garland D. Wheeler, Martin Truman Wheeler, Lewis E. Wheeler, and Earl Douglas Wheeler, all of Cookeville, James Carl Wheeler of MO, and Mack Ernest Wheeler of Lindville. Two brothers, Donald Vaden Wheeler and Louis Morgan Wheeler, both of Cookeville; two sisters, Mary
Daisy Wall and Mattie Mae Barget, both of Cookeville; and two stepdaughters, Sylvia Tackett and Sue Wheeler, both of Cookeville.
In addition to his parents, he wa also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ethel Flatt Wheeler; one son,
Dow Wheeler; one brother, Willie Frank Wheeler; and two sisters, Clennie Barkalow and Annie Ethel Pruitt.
