Ernest J. Hard of Manchester, ex-selectman
Ernest J. Hard, a life-long resident of Manchester, former selectman and past president of the Bennington County Farm Bureau, died Thursday at his home following a long illness. He was 84.
Mr. Hard was a retired farmer and had served on the Manchester board of selectmen for 12 years. He was a member of the Manchester First Congregational Church and a charter member and past president of the Bennington County Cooperative Creamery.
Born in Manchester Dec 3, 1887, he was the son of Willis C. and Mary (Burroughs) Hard. His schooling had been in Manchester. He married the former Martha Siegmann in Bennington Jan 21, 192t.
Survivors are his wife; one son, Willis J. Hard of Manchester; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Louise Bort of Springfield, Va., and Mrs. Irma Macy of St. Albans; a sister, Miss Josephine Hard of Manchester; a brother, Jesse B. Hard of Manchester; three grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Manchester First Congregational Church.
