42468 Private W. J. Rankin.
The Royal Welch Fusiliers.

There is considerable confusion over his exact identity, because of the alias name he used. It would appear that he used another persons identity to enlist, because he was a minor. It seems likely that he originally joined the Royal Welch Fusiliers, and may have been discharged due to his age. He may have later joined the Royal Irish Fusiliers.

John Coyle, was born on 7 August 1900 at Orriter Street, Cookstown.
His mother, Catherine Coyle, a Servant, registered his birth on 11 August 1900.

Catherine Coyle married William John Corr on 18 June 1903, at Mullinahoe, Church, Cookstown.
In the 1911 census, the family were living at Drumad, Coagh, Co. Tyrone.
