She was born just before Civil War but after 1860 census. William Riley, her brother was born in March before her dad was killed June 27, 1862. They were raised by Patrick Brown and they were in Craighead Co shortly after 1870 so she could marry William Parker by mid 1870 as his second wife. Her children gave her name as Ada, Addie Hammell on their delayed birth certificates. They owned land adjacent to Elizabeth Brown, her mother, in Craighead according to tax records for 1890. Her oldest daughter went to Oklahoma and is buried in same cemetery as Elizabeth Kinard Hamil Brown, further supporting the idea that Ada Hammell is truely the daughter of Elizabeth. There is no record of her marriage to W P Bishop in Craighead books. He was on census there in 1870 and 1880 and there is a claim for a marriage there but it is not to be found. A family history has been found that puts her birth after census in 1860. The 1870 census for the family in St clair Co Alabama is all messed up. By reading you can see where the person transcribing got off line on the ages. Has husband at 18 and wife as farmer. Has Will down as Hammond Brown. He would be William Riley Hamel using Brown as last name at that time.

Gravesite Details

As the tombstone was added at a much later date than her death and she was so very hard to trace down it is not bad that the date is so far off but with the births of her children it should be reasonable to be wrong. I will stand by the birth date.
