LEONA EMMALINE SCHMIDT
Leona Emmaline came to join the family of Calvin and Mary Hacker Adams November 19, 1914 in rural Stafford County, Kansas.
Near the age of one year, Leona moved with her family to Beaver County, Oklahoma. There she attended a Consolidated Rural School with her older brothers Dan and Grover. The family returned to Stafford County when Leona was 11 years old. Another brother, Frank, was born during this time.
On February 13, 1932, she and Emory Schmidt were united in marriage. They lived in Stafford County the remainder of her lifetime. Leona and Emery became the parents of Nadine, Gerald, and Larry. For several years her neice, Patty, also lived in the home.
Leona was an active member of the Friends Church, working whereever needed with the Missionary Society until failing health caused her to give up these works.
After her family was grown, Leona became a Licensed Nurses Aide and worked at the Stafford and St. Johns Nursing Homes.
Leona was a very resouceful lady and had a way of making things work with the material at hand. She had strong work ethics and along with Emery sustained their family by working in the fields, doing chores, gardening, canning, sewing dresses and feed sack shirts and making the best bread around. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, always interested in the activities and welfare of her family.
After enduring failing health for several years, she entered into eternal rest at the Siesta Nursing Home in Pratt, Kansas August 9, 1990 at the age of 75 years and 8 months.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, an infant daughter, and an infant great grandson.
Her presence will be missed by her husband Emery of the home, Gerald and Carol of Rural Sylvia, Larry of Rural Sylvia, Nadine and K O Fuller of McPherson, neice Pat Gadbury of Turon, grandchildren Bryon, Bradlee, Debbie, Kathi, Sharon, Shannon, Kelly, Darren, and Kim and fourteen great grandchildren along with a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral servces will be at 2:30 Saturday at Peacock - Milton Funeral Chapel, Stafford with the Rev.s June Warden and Glen O Morford presiding. Friends may call from 1 to 8 today at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Neola cemetery, Neola.
