Eleanor was one of twelve children born to Abel Howard and his wife Hepsabeth Curtis. Eleanor married, as his second wife, Luther Hopkins on September 3, 1835 in Salem, Washington, New York. Together they had four children (all born in Onondaga County): 1) Walter Hopkins, born about 1836; nothing further known, 2) James Ellis Hopkins, born June 2, 1837, died unmarried, October 26, 1857 in Kendalville, Noble, Indiana, 3) Alma Ann Hopkins, born February 6, 1839, died May 14, 1874, and 4) Mary Hopkins, born November 8, 1843 and died unmarried December 31, 1928 in either Salina or North Syracuse, New York.
