Lucille Kincaid Armstrong
Lucille Kincaid Armstrong, 94, of Etowah, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010.
She was a former member of Mount Olive A.M.E. Zion Church in Etowah, where she loved singing in the choir, and later moved her fellowship to Star Bethel Baptist Church in Etowah.
In earlier years she worked for several families in and around the Etowah area, among those were Col. and Mrs. D.B. Todd, Mr. and Mrs. Hershel Sloop, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Tuggle, Mr. and Mrs. Gideon Cochran and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burgin. She was also employed in Oak Ridge, and at Etowah Industries, Beauknit Corp, and at the Head Start Program at Etowah City Grammar School. She wrote a Parkstown News social column for the Etowah Enterprise for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Della Parris Kincaid; sisters: Margaret Cline and Elizabeth Mitchell; brothers: Charles Kincaid Jr., Frank Kincaid, William Kincaid, and Arthur Kincaid; husband, George Edward Armstrong; son, Richard Gillespie Sr.; one grandson, Richard Gillespie Jr.; and one aunt, Geneva Jackson.
Survivors include grandchildren: Richell Gillespie Jackson of Cleveland, Yatta (Larry) Taylor of Knoxville, Anthony Gillespie of Etowah, and Wanda Gillespie of Knoxville; daughter-in-law, Wanda McCleary of Knoxville; sisters-in-law: Lillie Armstrong of Chattanooga, and Polly Smith of Knoxville; brother-in-law, Herbert (Sheila) Armstrong of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren: Carlos Gillespie, Jakeya Gillespie, Jamesha Gillespie, Rashid Moore, Miracle Taylor and Cherish Gillespie; 14 great-great-grandchildren; special dear friends: Jane Sloop Tuggle and Susie Sloop Tallent; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday Aug. 21, 2010, at Star Bethel Baptist Church with pastor the Rev. James Parris officiating.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Interment will follow at New Zion Cemetery in Etowah.
