: Obit Paul Curtis, former funeral director dies Friday
Paul L. Curtis, 86, of Winslow, died Friday, Dec 5 at 11:15am at his residence following a lengthy illness. Born in Winslow, July 30, 1900, he was the son of Ulysses and Etta Richardson Curtis. He married the former Leo D. Bass January 4, 1923 and she survives. A funeral director for 53 years, he owned and operated Curtis Funeral Home for 40 years. He was a 50 year member of Winslow General Baptist Church and served in every offical office of the church during his lifetime. He was a 50 year member of Indiana Funeral Directors Association and a 50 year member of Knights of Pythias. Surviving besides his wife, Leo, are two sons, Clayton E. and Kenneth L. Curtis of Winslow; a brother, Elmer "Siz" Curtis of Winslow; three sisters, Grace Curtis, Pauline Scraper and Mary Francis Curtis of Winslow; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One sister, Ethel Hurt and two brothers, Denver and Joseph Curtis preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at Curtis Funeral Home with Rev. Herschel Long and Rev. Lendon Toms officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

PaPaw had 3 brothers and 4 sisters. He was a twin to Pauline but they had different birthdays. Pauline was born July 30 and PaPaw was born after midnight July 31. They always celebrated on July 30th. He graduated from Winslow High School in 1920. He married Grandma on January 4, 1923 and they had two sons Clayton and Kenneth. He was ordained a Deacon in the Winslow G.B. Church June 17, 1926.He graduated Indiana Mortuary School in 1944 and owned and operated the Curtis Funeral Home, Winslow, Pike Co., Indiana. He was a 53 year member of the IFDA.
