BEATTY

Clell LaVern Beatty was born May 24, 1908 at the family farm in Cedar Township, Lucas County, Iowa. He died Jan. 22, 1993, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center at the age of 84.

Clell was the son of David Thomas (Tom) Beaty and Nellie Mae Long Beaty. He married Mildred Lucille Pierce on April 16, 1933. To this union two sons were born, James Edward Beatty and David Lee Beatty.

Clell was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Theo Wanda Anderson.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Lucille Beatty of Chariton; son and daughter-in-law James and Priscilla Beatty and grandson, Christopher, of Humeston; son and daughter-in-law David and Jane Beatty and granddaughters Alyson and Alyssa of Chariton; one brother Neal Thomas Beatty of Albuquerque, NM; one brother-in-law Vern Anderson of Des Moines and a nephew Rich Anderson of Minneapolis, MN.

Clell enjoyed showing mules at the Iowa State Fair, the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, MO, the Ozark Empire Fair in Springfield, MO and the Tennessee State Fair in Nashville, TN, in both halter and hitch classes. He won many ribbons and trophies.

Clell was inducted into the Iowa State Fair Hall of Fame by the Iowa Draft Horse and Mule Association in 1981. He enjoyed going to mule and horse sales in Maryville, MO and Waverly, driving mule hitches in many local parades and attending the annual Draft Horse Picnic.

Clell lived and farmed all his life in Lucas County, the last 45 years at his farm in Warren Township.
