Herchel Don Buck Owens, 67, a resident of Scottsville, died Thursday, August 5, 2010, at Saint Marys Regional Medical Center. He was born February 26, 1943, at the Economy Community, to Louis Grady L. G. and Margaret Victoria Harris Owens.
He was a United States Navy veteran, having received a Good Conduct medal and was a member of the V. F. W. Rogers-Rye Post 2283. He was a master plumber for over 40 years working with his brother in Don and Larry's Plumbing Company for over 25 years, and was a recipient of the Plumber of the Year award from the Arkansas State Plumbers Association. He coached youth baseball at Hector for several years and loved hunting and playing music.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Shuree Owens of Clarksville and Richard and Christy Owens of Springdale; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Keith Mills of Dover and Tanya and Roger Lee of Dover; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ernest and Pat Owens of Hector and Larry and Wanda Owens of Russellville; a sister, Betty Mills of Hollister, Missouri; two grandchildren, Taylor and Grady Owens, both of Springdale; seven step-grandchildren; and a number of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at Shinn Chapel with the Rev. Roy Chisum and the Rev. David Owens officiating. Burial, with military honors provided by the V. F. W. Rogers-Rye Post 2283, will be in St. Joe Cemetery north of Atkins under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service. Active pallbearers will be Randall Palmer, Donnie Paige, Matt Hays, Dan Owens, Rick Owens, and Blake Babson. Honorary pallbearers will be Syd Rudder, Darrell Rose, Earl Chisum, and Kenny Summers. Visitation will be from 6 8 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home.
