Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until October 24, 1946, 1 year and 1 day after he went missing as was the custom.

Joseph served as a Technical Sergeant, 72nd Squadron, 52nd Air Service Group, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. It is unsure if he was a passenger or part of the crew of C-47 #44-76232

He resided in Colfax County, New Mexico prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 11, 1943 in Dallas, Texas. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Mechanic and also as Single, without dependents.

C-47 #44-76232 was on a flight from Myitkyina South Airdome, Burma, for Chabua, India carrying passengers and cargo.

Joseph died in the "Line Of Duty", during post war operations, when the C-47 he was on crashed for an unknown reason that was believed to be weather related in Burma after World War II was over.

He has previously been awarded the Air Medal.
