Eugene served as a Seaman Second Class, U.S.S. Allen M. Sumner (DD-692), U.S. Navy during World War II.

He resided in New Jersey prior to the war.

U.S.S. Allen M. Sumner was in the Lingayen Gulf to support minesweeping operations. At about noon they came under attack by Japanese kamikazes. One of the kamikazes crashed into the Sumner near the after stack and after torpedo mount.

The Sumner lost 14 men Killed or Missing In Action and 19 injured of which two later died of their wounds.

Eugene was one of the 14 crewman "Killed In Action" in this attack during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Eugene was buried at sea.

The Allen M. Sumner survived this attack and the war. She earned two battle stars during World War II, one during the Korean War, and two during the Vietnam War.
