Myles attended Trenton Central High School

1940 United States Federal Census (18 April 1940): Ewing Township, Mercer County, New Jersey (sheet pB, household 188, 1639 Pennington Road) – M. Victor Reed (19 New Jersey). His family had lived in the same house in 1935. Victor had completed four years of high school. He was a Machinist in the Turbine Industry.

He attended Rutgers University.

Miles Victor Reed (21, 15 November 1920, Ewing Township, New Jersey), a resident of 1639 Pennington Road, Ewing Township, Mercer County, New Jersey, signed up for his World War II Draft Registration Card (Serial No. T-557, Order No. T-11343) on 14 February 1942 in Pennington, Mercer County, New Jersey. He was employed by Johnson & Johnson & Rutgers University. Miles listed his mother, Mrs. Julia A. Reed, as the person who would always know his address. He was described as 6' in height, 175 lbs., with a ruddy complexion, brown/black hair and brown eyes.

Myles enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in May 1942. He was called to active duty in February 1943. He received his commission at Second Lieutenant (S/N O-826288) and wings in March 1944 at Turner Field, Albany, Georgia. 2nd Lt. Reed was assigned to the Troop Carrier Command at Sedalia Army Air Field (now Whiteman Air Force Base) in Missouri.

Myles V. Reed married Ruth Mary Williams on 25 April 1944 in the Broadway Presbyterian Church, Sedalia, Pettis County, Missouri. They were married by Rev. Herman M. Janssen. Myles and Ruth were both from Trenton, Mercer County, New Jersey.

Miss Williams Becomes Bride of Lt. Reed
Dr. and Mrs. Henry B. Kummell of Trenton, N.J., announce the marriage of Mrs. Kummell's daughter Ruth Mary Williams, to Lt. Myles Victor Reed, son of Mr. and Mrs. Myles V. Reed, also of Trenton. Her father was the late Roger C. Williams of Buffalo, New York.

The wedding took place Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock, Apr. 28, 1944 in the Broadway Presbyterian Church, Sedalia, Mo. The Rev. Herman M. Janssen officiated at the double ring ceremony...

Dr. Henry B. Kummell gave his step-daughter in marriage. She wore a white satin gown with Brittany lace veil caught to a halo of orange blossoms and carried a bouquet of Madonna lilies and stephanotis.

The alter was banked with palms and baskets of pastel snapdragons and was illuminated by white tapers in tall candelabra. The wedding music was played on the organ by Miss Marian Smith.

The couple was unattended. Lt. Aubrey Russell Upshaw Jr. of Birmingham, Ala., and Lt. Daniel L. McLaughlin of Westfield, N.J., were ushers, both of the Sedalia Army Air Field.

Following the nuptials a wedding dinner was held at Hotel Bothwell. Lieut. and Mrs. Reed are spending their honeymoon at the Cliff House on Bothwell Hill.

Mrs. Reed attended the Franklin School of Buffalo and is an Elmira College graduate, class of 1942. She is recording secretary of the Trenton College club. Her father was city chemist. Dr. Kummel was state geologist and director of the department of conservation and deleopment of New Jersey until his retirement several years ago. Lieutenant Reed attended Rutgers University, where he was a member of Delta Phi Fraternity. At present he is a pilot with the Troop Carrier Command, stationed at Sedalia, Mo., where the couple will reside at 312 W. Second Lieutenant Reed served with the 70th Squadron, 433rd Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force. He was sent overseas in July 1944.

2nd Lt. Myles V. Reed was the co-pilot on a Curtiss C-46D-5-CU Commando (C-46D #44-77360) with the 70th Squadron, 433rd Troop Carrier Group, U.S. Army Air Force. The C-46D #44-77360 took off at about 1630, 15 March 1945, with a crew of 4 and 21 passengers, on a ferrying mission from Elmore Field, Mindoro, Philippine Islands to Tanauan, Leyte, Philippine Islands. On approach in poor weather conditions, the plane crashed into a mountain located 6 kms (3.75 miles) northwest of San Roque, south of Tanauan, Leyte, Philippine Islands. 2nd Lt. Reed was first buried in 7740 USAF Cemetery, Leyte #1, Palo, Leyte, Philippines Islands – Grave 211 (D-D 6584). After the war (autumn of 1947) his remains (along with 8,568 other American soldiers) were disinterred and brought to the American Graves Registration Service Manila Mausoleum. From there, according to the wishes of his next of kin (wife, Mrs. Julia A. Reed), Second Lieutenant Myles Victor Reed was buried in his final resting place in the 7701 Ft. McKinley Cemetery (now known as the Manila American Cemetery) – Plot C, Row 16, Grave 49.

Myles also has a cenotaph in the First Presbyterian Church of Ewing Cemetery, Ewing, New Jersey.

He was awarded the Air Medal.

Ewing Church Will Dedicate Organ, Chimes
A new organ and memorial chimes will be dedicated this afternoon at 4 o'clock at Ewing Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Dr. Norman V. Hope pf Princeton will officiate.
