Mission: On March 19, 1944 took off piloted by 1st Lt. Alan S. Anderson on a low level strike against Cape Moem near Wewak. Over the target, likely damaged by bombs from previous B-25, this bomber was last seen to flip over on its back and crash into the jungle, killing the entire crew. When this aircraft failed to return the entire crew was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA).

Walter served as a Second Lieutenant & Bombardier on B-25D "Miss Ellen" #41-30185, 499th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Washoe County, Nevada prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 9, 1942 in San Francisco, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and also as Single, without dependents.
He was married sometime after his enlistment.
B-25D #41-30185 took off on a bombing mission over Cape Moem near Wewak, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. An eyewitness noticed that 3 bombs dropped by a B-25 ahead of them exploded near their B-25 which possibly caused them to become damaged and they crashed on Mum Point, Cape Moem during the war. The remains of the crew have never been found.
Walter was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.
He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
