Carl served as a First Lieutenant & Pilot on B-29 "Devil May Care" #42-24452, 45th Bomber Squadron, 40th Bomber Group, Very Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.


He resided in Cleveland County, Oklahoma prior to the war.


He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 6, 1942 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Actor and also as Single, without dependents.


B-29 #42-24452 took off, with a crew of 11, from Chakulia, India with 60 other B-29's on a bombing mission to attack rail yards in Bangkok, Thailand.


They were believed to have been shot down by Japanese aircraft. B-29 #42-24452 was the only B-29 lost on this mission.


Carl was declared "Missing In Action" on this mission during the war.


He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
