Evans served as a Private, 93rd Bomber Squadron, 19th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
He resided in Wise County, Virginia prior to the war.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on June 6, 1941, prior to the war in Roanoke, Virginia. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.
He became a POW of the Japanese Army in the "Fall Of The Philippines" in May, 1942.
Evans "Died While A POW" of the Japanese Army from illness at Cabanatuan Prisoner of War Camp in the Philippines during the war.
14 soldiers were buried in a common grave, Number 717, by the Japanese at Cabanatuan. All 14 were exhumed and re-interred at Manila as "unknowns" in 1946.
In June 2014 the 14 "unknowns" were exhumed from their grave at Manila for possibly identification.
Evans' remains were identified as being one of the "unknowns" from Cabanatuan.
He was awarded the Prisoner Of War Medal and the Purple Heart.
