Son of Wilfred H. Chretien, Sr. who resided in Woonsocket, Rhode Island.

Wilfred served as a Staff Sergeant, 11th Squadron, 8th Air Service Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Providence County, Rhode Island prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on November 28, 1939, prior to the war. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in trades and services and also as Divorced, without dependents.

Wilfred was a Passenger on B-25G #42-64881, 823rd Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force.

B-25G #42-64881 took off from Garbutt Field near Townsville, Queensland, Australia on a ferrying flight, with a crew of 5 and 6 passengers, bound for 17 Mile Drome (Durand) near Port Moresby, Central Province Papua New Guinea. The passengers were from the 823rd Bombardment Squadron and other U. S. Army units.

There was a strong weather front reported between New Guinea and Australia on that day. It is assumed, since they never arrived at their destination, that they crashed somewhere near the Coral sea during the war. Everyone on board was lost.

Wilfred was declared "Missing In Action" on this flight during the war.
